iGCSE Programme
The iGCSE Programme in Years 10 and 11
At ICS London we offer students the opportunity to experience the best possible preparation for the IB Diploma Programme. Many of the topics studied at IGCSE level are also studied during IB Diploma, meaning that our IGCSE courses will build a strong foundation which will help students perform better in the IBDP.
IGCSEs are recognised worldwide by other schools and universities, and they can be used as proof of academic achievement, which is useful during the admissions process when applying to university. Some universities in the USA accept IGCSEs as a qualification similar to the US High School Diploma. This is because the US has a 4-year degree programme, and what would be covered in the IB Diploma is covered in the first year of study course in their universities.
IGCSES are a flexible curriculum and are adapted each year to meet the needs of our students. The units are conceptual and inquiry-focused; therefore, topics, content, and texts may change. What follows is a sample curriculum.
Current iGCSE subjects include:
- English B or English as a Second Language
- Mathematics or Further Pure Mathematics
- Science Double Award (Chemistry, Biology and Physics)
- Global Citizenship or Business
- Art & Design, Music or Drama
- Modern Foreign Language (French, Mandarin or Spanish)
- PE (Physical Education)
Homework
Home learning is designed to be purposeful and is connected to units of study. It may be
short-term or project-based and provides a good opportunity for parents to engage with their
child’s learning. It may be an explicit task, or review or extension of classroom-based
learning.
