It has been an incredibly exciting and inspiring week for both primary and secondary students at ICS London, as the school came together to celebrate Eco Week through a diverse range of creative and educational activities.

Sustainability remains a core value at ICS London, deeply embedded in the ethos of our international community. With students and staff representing cultures and perspectives from around the world, there is a shared understanding that building a more sustainable future is not only important, but essential. Throughout the year, our dedicated Eco Committee works actively to promote environmentally responsible habits, encouraging initiatives such as recycling, reducing water and food waste, and exploring more plant-based lifestyle choices.

Eco Week provided a fantastic opportunity to bring these principles to life. Under the excellent coordination of Ms. Ciara, students across all year groups engaged in hands-on projects designed to spark curiosity, creativity, and environmental awareness.

Our primary students embraced the challenge of designing and building balloon-powered buggies and intricate marble runs using recyclable materials. These activities not only encouraged innovation and teamwork but also highlighted the potential of reusing everyday items in imaginative ways.

In the secondary school, students explored sustainability through both art and science. Year 8 students created striking nature-themed murals on recycled wood, which are now proudly displayed in the school courtyard as a lasting reminder of their work. Year 9 students added their own creative touch by decorating donated terracotta plant pots, combining artistic expression with environmental purpose.

Building on this, Year 10 students used the decorated pots as part of a scientific investigation into how seed depth affects germination. Their work extended beyond the classroom, as they also installed a rainwater harvesting system—demonstrating a practical and impactful approach to water conservation.

Eco Week at ICS London has not only been a celebration of sustainability but also a powerful reminder of what can be achieved when a community comes together with a shared purpose. Through creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking, our students are developing the knowledge and skills needed to become responsible global citizens and stewards of the environment.
