ICS London is celebrating another outstanding achievement following success at this year’s Globeducate Debate, the annual international debating event that brings together Globeducate schools from around the world in a dynamic online competition.

Now a firmly established highlight of the academic calendar, the Globeducate Debate challenges students to develop their public speaking, critical thinking, as well as collaborative and reasoning skills while engaging with complex global issues. Competing against schools across multiple countries, students are required to present structured arguments and respond to opposing viewpoints.

This year, both the Year 8 and Year 9 debating teams from ICS London emerged victorious in their respective competitions, marking an impressive third consecutive year of success for the school in this international event.

The competition featured two particularly challenging and contemporary motions:

  • Year 8: “Should euthanasia be legalised?”
  • Year 9: “Do the Enhanced Games and performance-enhancing drugs represent the future of elite sport?”

Both topics demanded careful ethical reasoning, awareness of current global debates and the ability to articulate balanced arguments. ICS London students demonstrated maturity and depth in their analysis, engaging thoughtfully with sensitive and complex issues while maintaining clarity and respect throughout.

Winning both age categories is a significant accomplishment, reflecting the strength of ICS London’s debating programme and the dedication of the students involved. Their success for a third year in a row highlights not only strong preparation but also a culture of curiosity and intellectual engagement within the school.

A special mention goes to Orlando, one of our Year 8 students, who was individually recognised by the judges as an outstanding debater.

The school community congratulates all students who participated in this year’s Globeducate Debate. Their achievements reflect a commitment to excellence and a willingness to engage with some of the most challenging ethical and societal questions of our time.
