Students in Year 9 have been enthusiastically engaging in their community project - an important part of the curriculum that encourages them to reflect on their learning, collaborate with peers, and contribute meaningfully to their community. Designed for students aged 13–14, the community project empowers them to take initiative, explore real-world issues, and make a positive impact.

This year’s projects have ranged widely, with some students choosing to focus on environmental care through litter-picking campaigns, while others have turned their attention to mental health and wellbeing.

A highlight of the week came on Tuesday, when some of the Year 9 students hosted an engaging assembly exploring the powerful connection between sport and mental health. Their presentation emphasized how regular physical activity can improve mood, reduce stress, and promote overall mental wellbeing. The assembly was part of a broader effort to break down stigma and encourage open conversations around mental health among their peers.

To reinforce the message, the team organized a mini sports day event on Thursday. The event brought together students from Years 7, 8, and 9 for an afternoon of fun, teamwork, and physical activity. Participants had the chance to play a variety of sports while reflecting on the assembly's themes, putting the ideas into action in a lively and inclusive setting.

Joaquin, one of the student leaders behind the initiative, shared his thoughts:

“It was a really fun day and I hope other students had the chance to explore mental health awareness and learn how sport can improve your mental health.”

These community projects are more than just academic exercises - they’re helping students develop empathy, leadership, and a sense of responsibility. We’re incredibly proud of our Year 9s for their thoughtful initiatives and their commitment to making a difference.
